The Other World (part 1)

Jeffrey Xu

On a bright and sunny afternoon, Josh went to the  store to buy a soda pop and some chips and a sandwich for lunch. Then he went back home to eat his lunch, as he was walking home he thought about his homework. A bunch of math problems, science worksheet, and a history paper. When he got home, he call out “I’m home”. ….Silence. Josh sighed, just like everyday, he thought. His parents were always with their business, and just don’t pay attention to him.  He silently walked over to the table, and set down his lunch. He ate silently. Then he silently walked up to his room, to do his homework, which he finish in about 30 minutes. Then he set off to read a bunch of books that he liked , 3/4 of them were on different subjects like science, math, social studies, and all the subjects that he like learning about. Maybe that’s why he was a 15 years old senior in a magnet school. But, not that his parents would care. When he got tired of reading, he went to play some video games, and watch some television.

After it was 8:00 pm, he watched some T.V., then he went to the bathroom to brush his teeth, and then got into his race car bed. He soon drifted off to sleep.

When he woke up, he couldn’t recall where he was. He was still in his bed. But when he looked outside, in the garden where the gardener was usually tending the flowers or the golden fountain, there was nothing but clouds.

Where am I? Josh thought as he looked around his house. Everything inside his house seemed fine, even the plastic bag containing the lunch that he bought was still where he left it. If he hadn’t seen what was outside his bedroom window, he would have still thought everything was normal.

He went out of his front door only to see that the porch was covered with clouds that went as far as he could see. He sat down on the porch.

“Why is this happening to me??!!!”, he yelled at the endless clouds.

“Don’t I have enough, already??!!”, he yelled again.

Then a voice came from ahead of him in the distance, “What are you yelling for?”

… to be continued.
